Eunhye Jeong, a pianist/composer/improviser born in Korea, moved to Boston to study at Berklee College of Music in 2009. Living in the urban hotbed of multicultural Boston, she began to explore global musical traditions from African to Middle Eastern countries. This exploration became the motivation to connect more deeply to her own roots.
In founding Sigimsae – Berklee Korean Traditional Music Society, she extended her awareness of Korean traditional music and her vision of theretofore unexplored musical possibilities. All these activities crystalized in her first album “Turtle Suite” released in 2015, introduced via national radio programs such as SBS Love FM and Gugak FM and magazines such as MM Jazz, Jazz People in Korea.
Throughout her study and career, she had the honour to be mentored by award-winning film composer George S. Clinton, and international jazz pianist/composer Vadim Neselovskyi, and the MacArthur Fellows Vijay Iyer and Tyshawn Sorey, whom she met through Banff International Workshop in Jazz and Creative Music in 2017.
While furthering her understanding of Korean traditional music by studying Pansori from master Il-dong Bae since 2015, she is currently fostering new improvisation/composition projects with several collectives such as 2 Begets 3Red Exit and Sarrow and also in solo and duo setting. In 2018, she released two new records: a solo piano album “Chi-da” and a duo album “2 Begets 3” with Noa Fort.
